The Virgin Islands archipelago is one of the premier sailing destinations in the world. Not only does it boast calm seas and temperate weather year round, it is also home to vibrant Caribbean culture, iconic beach bars, and exceptional diving & water sports.

Tortola

Tortola is the largest of the British Virgin Islands and the capital of the territory, with most of the commerce taking place in Roadtown.

This large island is interesting to explore and offers many opportunities to connect with the culture and the natural world. From hiking, to an array of beaches all with unique personalities (some you can even surf on!), to local Caribbean cuisine, Tortola is worth spending time getting to know.

Located to the east of Tortola and connected by a bridge is Beef Island, which is where all flights come in and out of at Terrance B. Lettsome airport (EIS). If you’re waiting on a flight, Beef Island’s quaint strip of beach has a couple of small beach bars to check out, including the Loose Mongoose.

Jost Van Dyke

Jost Van Dyke is one of the smallest of the main Virgin Islands, and yet it has such a big reputation. No visit to the BVI is complete without time on Jost. The pristine shoreline of White Bay is irresistibly fun with a string of whimsical beach bars (including the iconic Soggy Dollar Bar), beach volleyball, hammocks, and low slung chairs to sit on in the clear water for hours on end.

On the opposite side of the island, you’ll find the other illustrious BVI bar, Foxy’s. There is also a short hike you can take to Bubbly Pool, a natural geological “jacuzzi.”

Virgin Gorda

Virgin Gorda is best known for being home to the natural wonder, The Baths. These gigantic granite boulders are located between two gorgeous BVI beaches. The picturesque path between them allows you to climb, crawl, and stroll through the stacked boulders, dipping into grottoes with views out to the sea beyond.

On the opposite side of the island is the North Sound of Virgin Gorda. This protected sound is a beloved overnight mooring spot due to its sunrise views and easy access to playful pitstops like Saba Rock Resort for happy hour to watch the nightly tarpon feeding, the classic mariner’s watering hole that’s Bitter End Yacht Club, or Leverick Bay for the Legendary Michael Beans Happy Arrrr.

Norman Island

Norman Island’s lore is that it was the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novel, Treasure Island. Pirate-loving guests love to make a stop here, not only due to this fact, but also because it’s home to the infamous floating pirate bar, The Willy T.

Norman Island is also one of our top spots for snorkeling & scuba diving. The Caves & The Indians are two incredibly unique underwater experiences teeming with tropical marine life. Ashore, the charming bar & grill Pirate’s Bight is a lively outpost on a stunning white sand beach.

Anegada

Anegada is the only island in the BVI that’s coral in origin, meaning it’s completely flat compared to the other mountainous volcanic islands in the archipelago. As a result, Anegada’s shoreline is a continuous stretch of long, breathtaking white sand beach.

A day on Anegada is best spent tooling around the sandy roads via Moke to see the wild flamingoes and do a beach bar crawl. Quaint beach bars like Tipsy Beach Bar and Big Bamboo are our favorites. Anegada also boasts the ideal conditions for those who wish to try out the invigorating sport of kiteboarding.
